Great expectations
To paraphrase a conversation I had with a good friend: “Why do we so often set the bar higher than God has set for us?”
This is not a question seeking to cast off what God asks of the way we live our lives, but it is a question for those who work too hard, who give themselves no time for rest, those who are heading towards ‘burn out’. And too often, it seems to me, this is caused by the expectations that others have of us, or even worse, by what we think are the expectations that others have of us.
I pray that I can cast off the expectations of humans, and look towards the Judge: To the one that 1 Cor 7 would say is the only one with rights over me.
