From a Briefing reader:
Interesting article (from the Australian) on tribal law and dilemmas of a ‘multicultural’ approach. Note especially the comment in the third-last paragraph:
Critics of multiculturalism are invariably labelled as critics of tolerance. Although tolerance is a worthy goal, it is only meaningful when tempered with moral judgments about what is right and what is wrong.
Err, but what have we Christians been saying for yonks?

Dear editor,
The aging of the Australian population is another subtle but significant sign of how far we have shifted from the Judaeo-christian world-view in the last 50 years. Children used to be seen in as an unmixed blessing; now the possibility of their appearing on the scene is frequently viewed with anxiety and trepidation.
Still, swings and roundabouts. Children can still be disposed of while they are in the womb, and the research knowledge potentially gained from their stem cells can be used to keep the oldies healthy in their decrepitude for longer, postponing the necessity for euthanasia. If we believed in a god we might thank him for these small mercies.
