St. Andrew's/St. John's Presbyterian Church, Newcastle

Organist

An organist is required for St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church—Newcastle NSW for the morning service at 9.30am each Sunday and other special occasions (e.g. Easter and Christmas).

The organ is a Hills 3 manual tracker organ installed in the church in 1892. Some modifications have been carried out (e.g. a hydraulic motor installed in 1924, a new stop, Voix Celese added and the choir organ enclosed in a swell box). In 1972/73 a new blower unit and motor was installed. Our organ is one of five, three manual, Hill Tracker organs which have survived in NSW, and is still well maintained. The organ is used for Sunday morning services, weddings, funerals and other special occasions. There is also a Yamaha grand piano in the church and a Carillion.

The organist is expected to work closely with the ministers of the parish, the Director of Music and Asst. Director of Music to arrange hymns, introits and anthems for the service(s) and also to accompany the St. Andrew's Choir which is augmented with members of the Newcastle University Chamber Choir.

This is a paid part-time position.

Further information for the position is available from the minister:
