I’m sure you, like me, are very familiar with requests from valuable gospel ministries asking for donations. Funding ministry is difficult in good financial times, and that’s definitely not how we would describe 2025! But here we are, asking for your help to raise $100,000 to support the ministry of Matthias Media by June 30, 2025.

I imagine there are two main questions you have when receiving a donation request from Matthias Media and deciding if it’s something you should consider:

1. Isn’t Matthias Media a publishing company and therefore funding itself through the sale of resources?
2. If I give, what will it actually achieve?

Yes, Matthias Media produces resources and is mostly funded by the sale of those resources. But we are much more than a publishing company; we are a gospel resources ministry. Our aim is to produce resources that—we pray—God will use to grow his kingdom. Resources to make and grow disciples who make more disciples. Resources to help people grow deeper in their love and knowledge of him through his word, for his glory and the benefit of others. We want people to make Jesus known.

Gospel ministry of this kind is rarely profitable. It’s certainly a lot less profitable than publishing the latest books by famous pastors. So, while we don’t ask people to fund all that we do, we do ask for generous support of vital gospel ministry to help to make up the difference.

In terms of what it would achieve, I’d like to approach this question from an unusual angle. What would it look like if Matthias Media didn’t exist?

• We would lose an important Australian voice and source of home-grown ministry resources.
• We would have to make do with resources created overseas.
• There would be a lot fewer resources that specifically aim at training people in gospel ministry.
• Many Australian authors would struggle to be published and share their biblical insights and ministry ideas. We would all miss out!
• Australian reformed evangelicalism would have less of an international voice, particularly in the US.
• Each year, hundreds of people tell us how they are using Matthias Media resources to share the gospel in their unique settings. This would no longer be the case.

From a more positive angle, here are some of our plans that we pray will come to fruition in the next 12 months:

• To make Two Ways to Live available in print in multiple languages all over the world at an affordable cost.
• To complete the Interactive Bible Study New Testament series and to offer churches easier and better ways to resource their growth groups.
• To provide free resources to encourage the reading of Christian books in order to help people understand God’s word better and grow into mature disciples.
• To continue to introduce and publish new Australian authors (and, of course, some established favourites!).
