The story of how Job loses everything and then struggles with his pain, his ignorance and the dubious comfort of his friends, is one of the classics of world literature. But it is much more than a literary masterpiece. It is a book about life as it really is—where good things happen, bad things happen, and just plain confusing things happen; where there is grief and agonizing and asking why; and where there is God, whom we know is Lord of all, yet whose ways we don't always understand.
In these six masterful studies, Bryson Smith takes us to the heart of Job, and to the valuable lessons it teaches us about life and suffering and the true wisdom of God.
An ideal study book for individuals and small groups.
If you wish to share copies of the study with others, or plan to read out the questions or explanatory text to a group, consider a group licence. A group licence allows for up to 15 copies of a PDF to be shared within one growth group, making it quick and easy to organise. Otherwise, adjust the quantity you're buying to match the number of people participating. Volume discounts still apply to digital files, and these discounts will be automatically applied at checkout.

Halfway between a sermon and a set of study questions, these studies, written by gifted Bible teachers, provide excellent biblical input and direction while leaving you to do much of the exploration.
We have been working through the first study of the Eye of the Storm Job series and have found it helpful with good questions and commentary. It helps us with the question of whether suffering is always due to sin.
My Bible Study group are currently working through this guide to Job, and finding it enlightening. It is helpful to have this rather cumbersome book broken down into 6 studies, though I have divided two of the studies so that altogether we will spend eight weeks on it. My group are used to preparing beforehand; I don't know how these studies would work with a group that didn't, as several of them contain a lot of reading. In fact for studies two and three I split the reading up between group members, even in preparation. This made the task less daunting. They are still looking at the questions, and reading the explanatory sections, which are helpful.
Our small group has found these studies unfold lessons from Job in a really logical and eye-opening way. This has caused me personally to review my previous thoughts on God's role in suffering. It has helped me think more Biblically and know how to better explain this difficult topic to others.
However, it takes a fair bit of work for the Bible study leader - to shorten the readings to fit the whole study within about 1 ¼ hrs - for attendees who have not done any preparation. `We did not ask for any preparation as that would put many off attending. A "shortened version" in the back would be really helpful going forward with all of your studies which appear better suited for serious students or for personal study.
