I’ve just finished reading through the book ‘The Manual: Getting Masculinity Right’ by Al Stewart. I wanted to pass on some feedback as I really enjoyed the book, and particularly appreciated the focus on healthy masculinity and the way Al delves into what that looks like, and the important ways that men can ‘man up’. I am a pastor in a local church in Canberra, and have oversight of the youth ministry, among other things. I have found it a great resource to engage the older guys in the youth group (in that 15-18 years old group) in discussion around what it means to be a man, what healthy masculinity is, and how we can pursue a godly and Biblical standard in our lives.

Thank you to Al for the no doubt many, many hours of hard work that went into writing this book, and thank you to Matthias Media for publishing it. It is an important message for the day and age we live in.

I just finished reading Al Stewart's "The Manual". What a great book that understands what the 2023 man is experiencing. I have 5 kids, work full time, and get frustrated when parenting feels like nothing more than cleaning and logistics. I was also greatly helped by the other subjects covered too though: the workplace, views in masculinity, and being a husband. I will try to play the long game and set about to find some friends. Thank you for the book l; I have already recommended it to others.

Al Stewart wrote as if he were talking to you. This is an excellent book on how to raise men from our boys. I have three boys, and they are the most significant challenge to my life and ministry. Al has helped reaffirm my conviction that the gospel is decisive for the task of making mature men out of boys. Al helpfully states that for boys to be mature men, they need to remember life is hard, they are not that important, life is not about them, they are not in control, and they will die. The gospel of Jesus makes men out of boys by giving them the confidence to cope with life.

Just finished ‘The Manual’ by Al Stewart and true to Al’s openness, found it a book to easily pass on/give/recommend to men, all and sundry.
I loved the way Al pulled no punches with his clarity of expression and shared much of his own life’s successes and failures, or more to the point, what he had learnt along the way that went well and what didn’t.
One excellent read for all men.
