Join Ian Carmichael as he explores the Bible in search of a better way to handle our busy lives. This Group Bible study guide helps a group study what God's word says on the topic of busyness and how a Christian decides what to spend their time on. Members will read Busy during the week and then gather to read the Bible and learn from each other.
There is also a separate leader guide available.
Ian Carmichael has been with Matthias Media from its beginnings in 1988, co-leading with Tony Payne for many of those years. Ian stepped down from the CEO role in late 2020, and now contributes in an honorary capacity. Ian and his wife, Stephanie, are part of Chatswood Presbyterian Church in Sydney.
This book is refreshing! Unlike many other books on the topic, this one provides a solid foundation for why we work and rest. That is, we work and rest because God is one who works and rests — and we represent Him in them as being made in His image. So work and rest is built into the way God designed us in His likeness. Carmichael then explains God's metanarrative (or big picture) of His redemptive story and how our work and rest fits into this context, helping us to prioritize the things in our lives that ultimately move us forward toward what God has promised as the conclusion of His redemptive story, the new creation. I believe this is a faithful approach to tackling the common struggles we face in a very busy society. It puts the indicatives before the imperatives.
